This is a guest post by the wonderful Jodi Chapman. You can find out much more about Jodi below and the fabulous new programme she’s about to launch – a must see and do.
You know which word can be extremely liberating and also extremely terrifying at the same time?
Choice.
It’s funny how our reaction to such a short, one-syllable world can either open up our world or close it off completely. Our choices determine every single part of our life.
And that can be both scary and amazing.
Scary because, if you’re at all like me, you’ve chosen to spend most of your life curled up inside your own comfort zone, avoiding opportunities and definitely not stretching your bravery muscle.
Amazing because, again if you’re at all like me, there comes a moment in your life where you realize that you don’t have to live in this closed-off existence. You don’t have to allow fear to control each aspect of your life. You can choose another way to live – a more open and freeing way.
Think about it: each moment of every single day we get to decide how we are going to live. Each moment!
Let’s imagine that one moment you choose to be brave – you say yes to adventure and a new path that’s far away from the known. And then in the next moment, you notice your thoughts moving toward fear. You think about how far away from your comfort zone being brave would require you to be, and you just want to crawl back into your bed, pull the covers up, and stay there for awhile.
But somewhere deep inside of you, you hear a little voice that is asking you to choose to be brave. It’s asking you to choose to push to the other side of the known into the magic. It’s asking you to choose, in this very moment, to say yes to life.
And while a big part of you wants nothing more to say, “No thank you,” to this voice, you simply can’t. Because you know that your life is passing you by and has been for a long while. You know that by choosing to stay safe, you have also chosen to sleep your life away. And you’re no longer okay with making choices based on fear. You realize that you can now choose to make them because you are excited and ready to truly live!
In this moment, you realize that the choice is yours to make. It always has been yours to make. And just because in the past you may have chosen to go down the comfortable path, that moment is over. In this moment, you can make a new choice. In this moment, you can decide to go down a different path – one that leads you toward adventure and aliveness.
And whichever path you choose to take is completely up to you.
I lived most of my life seeing the word choice as overwhelming and scary and outside of what I could handle. But now, for the first time in my life, I’m starting to see every choice that I make as an opportunity for change and growth. And this simple shift in my mindset has completely changed my world.
Our ability to choose how we live our lives is such a beautiful gift that we’ve each been given. How will you choose to live in this moment?

I remembered the time when I was in high school and I was given two choices, transfer a new school and be separated frommy closest and my childhood best friend or no school at all. That was really hard for me but I did chose the new school, because somewhere, sometime, after I graduate, I can still see my bestfriend! and my decision was right
Great post about choice Jodi! We are starting to leave fear behind, too, and make wonderful exciting choices. It is such a gift to move beyond fear!
Thanks, Elle, for a great guest post!
