A-happy-man on mountain top

[success]It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that things are difficult.  ~ Seneca[/success]

Change is in the air.

Lying before you is a brand new year filled with hope, possibilities and new beginnings.

Many get new life breathed into old projects and dreams; life pulses with all the things waiting to be experienced and accomplished.

But what if this isn’t true for you?

What if you’ve been dreaming of living an ideal life, but every time you reach for it, what do you find waiting for you?

Blocks.

The not wanting to be disappointed block.

Not believing it’s possible block.

The deservability block.

The what will everyone think block.

Being bewitched by all the should do’s and not being able to see what lights up your heart.

Don’t despair. And don’t sit back waiting for life to get better. Blocks aren’t always obstacles, you can use them just as easily to build an incredible life. It’s time to revive your vision, to rebuild your dreams.

The reality is, being stuck is hard; being spectacular is hard. You get to choose which one you’d prefer.

With this in mind, here are a few ideas that I hope will inspire you to do what it takes to live your version of a spectacularly awesome life:

Raise your standards

Decide to enjoy your life regardless of what’s happening.

Once you commit to being creative in directing your focus and maintaining those thoughts that lead you to experience the real richness of life you’ll be aligning a winning image with your daily habits.

get-from-stuck-to-spectacularLook around, you weren’t put here to stagnate, you were made by the same power that orchestrates the changes of life. All that’s asked of you is that you do your part.

Write down the things you’re no longer willing to put up with. Be they your old habits, or the behaviour of those around you. And then write down the person you’ve decided to be at the end of 2015. Be big. Be bold. Be adventurous.

Take charge of your happiness

Don’t build your life around the idea that your happiness depends on something outside your control or you’ll find yourself in a lot of painful situations. Free yourself from the belief that you have to have something or be someone before you can be happy and don’t neglect to take charge of all that’s within your power.

Make sure the rules you live by allow you to get the most out of each day. Life is variable and you need to adapt your rules as you go.

Don’t miss your chances

It’s time to stop glorifying the busyness of life and give yourself a chance to stay focused on where you are going and why. Life will push you forward anyway, and it’s up to you to take the time to stop and enjoy the journey. Give yourself time to refresh, renew and rest up and let life share it’s magic.

Let go of worrying you’re not progressing quickly enough. Driving faster won’t help if you’re heading in the wrong direction. You need room to turn around. In the waves of time and space lie your dreams, don’t be in such a hurry that you miss them.

Cultivate flexibility

Be willing to not know how.

If you’ve set a goal and you know how you’re going to get there it’s not inspiring enough.

It’s not going to help you evolve.

It’s not going to increase anything in your world.

Far too many get stuck on the means of achievement when really it’s the outcome they want.

Spiritually speaking, keep yourself tuned into the outcome and if you don’t know how to achieve something, don’t worry. Summon the power of your imagination and picture yourself succeeding.

Determine your destiny

The choices you make and not the circumstances that surround you direct your destiny.

Prove to yourself that you’re committed to capturing the most out of each day and make one or two choices that you’ve been putting off. Take actions today that will shape your destiny tomorrow.

Decide on something easy and take that first step towards its fulfillment. You’re setting your destiny in motion.

Then decide on something more difficult and show yourself what you can do. Right now.

The first step might not be easy but if you keep the faith you’ll discover the magical component that turns dreams into reality is simply the courage to begin.

Refuse to play the blame game

From this moment on refuse to complain about the present or the past. Instead, decide to make progress.

Refuse to pay attention to the ‘what ifs’ or ‘if onlys’, the he said, she did.

Accept responsibility for your life. Not blame.

From a spiritual perspective blame isn’t real. Blame is fault finding. Responsibility is merely being accountable.

Be accountable for your perspective on life, be accountable for your reactions, be accountable for the choices you’ve made.

Let go of the nonsense of assigning blame, it’s never got you one step closer to living your best life.

Let today be the day

The day you start to do the things you are not currently doing.

Make new choices, begin new projects, learn something new, or change the entire direction of your work or personal life.

Get a support buddy, there’s always someone who needs a little encouragement(or a lot) . Don’t be afraid to reach out.

It doesn’t have to be hard. Stand back and evaluate your life with new eyes. Then you can decide to discontinue activities and behaviors that aren’t consistent with what you want and where you want to go.

Refuse, from this moment forward, to criticize others for any reason. Refuse to complain about your situation or about what has happened in the past. Focus instead on what you really want and where you are going.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked for advice on getting unstuck. Even if you don’t identify with being stuck, I bet someone you know, does. If that’s the case…be sure to share this post with them and help them out!

And if YOU enjoyed what you read, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below and please spread the word through your favourite social networks.

Encourage one another.

  1. Hi Elle,

I am struck by how powerful this decision can be: “Decide to enjoy your life regardless of what’s happening.” I also totally relate to this suggestion: “It’s time to stop glorifying the busyness of life and give yourself a chance to stay focused on where you are going and why.” That’s been one of my goals over the past few months!

I’ve had to enjoy life, regardless, a couple of times in the past 2 weeks Sandra. It’s easier on the heart and soul I think. You’re a wonderful role model for giving yourself a chance to stay focused on where you’re going. Love what you’ve been practicing lately. 🙂

  2. Hi Elle,

Love the new blog and enjoyed this post in particular.

“Make new choices, begin new projects, learn something new, or change the entire direction of your work or personal life.”

Life has a way of snowballing. Doing the above may not manifest huge changes at first, but…..

Hi Dan, how lovely to ‘see’ you again. I have a feeling you’ve been making quite a few new choices of late. Would love to hear all about where you are in life and what you’ve been up to! 🙂

  3. I love how you say that, “being stuck is hard; being spectacular is hard. You get to choose which one you’d prefer.” It’s so true that it takes effort either way, so it makes sense to me that we should put that effort into something good. I think most people just don’t realize this. Great advice here! And Happy New Year!

  5. A lovely post Elle. Last year I was all about ‘cultivating flexibility’, and this year I’m going to ‘raise my standards’. Thanks for sharing x

Hi Ellen, I appreciate you stopping by and commenting. It’s always good to hear about the wonderful way others are decided to create a greater life. We can all learn so much from one other and I really like what you worked on last year; cultivating flexibility sounds like a great idea for many of us! 🙂

Hi Sandra, isn’t it great when we find something that just ‘speaks’ to us in that moment. I’m happy that this time it was me! 🙂

  6. My mantra for life is: Attitude Is Everything. Oh and believe me, I used to be the excuse-maker. I used to be the blamer. The complainer. In other words, the one with the bad attitude! So having spent a long time on that side of the aisle, and now having spent time on the side of a better attitude, I can say I know the difference. Life can go from stuck to spectacular in a moment if only we allow it to be so!

  8. I love this idea to “Get a support buddy, there’s always someone who needs a little encouragement(or a lot. Don’t be afraid to reach out.” Reaching out to others who are in the same place or who can urge you onward can be so helpful. I know it has helped me a lot. Great post here Elle and so uplifting for the new year!

    • ElleSommer

Hi Cathy, you and I know how helpful buddies can be. Mastermind Groups, Alliances, one off support buddies…all can make a huge difference in supporting and encouraging us to be the greatest us possible. I’m so happy to hear you speak of it so positively for yourself, I’m sure your comment will encourage and inspire others to reach out for encouragement of their own.

  9. Hi Elle, I really appreciate your advice. I know exactly what that word( stuck) means. I’ve been carrying this stone for years. Thinking how to get ride off this. Our decisions are important to lead us to our goals. Our atitudes are essencials a to make our dreams happen. So let’s do what make us happy and find our inner voice.

    • ElleSommer

Hello Marcela and welcome to the community. I so agree with what you say, let’s all do what makes us happy and measure our days by happy we felt, not the busyness we experienced! 🙂

  10. Elle, This is such a powerful post, and so completely true. It’s so amazing to think that we can let go of all the mental blocks that hold us back and just be happy being who and what we are – but we can. It’s a struggle for all of us, for sure. We’re works in progress, but letting go and giving up that fight and being happy is such a peaceful and empowering thing. I know that I am working to be more mindful of being here now this year.

Thank you for sharing this post!

    Jess

    • ElleSommer

Hi Jessica…the truth is that it isn’t always easy to let go but one tiny piece at a time works wonders. If only we’d get rid of the idea that everything has to fall into place all at once. And welcome to the being more mindful club kiddo. We all have those things to be more mindful of in our world…I know I have and am working on them as we speak.

I’ve just been visiting your site and have found a lot of stuff that makes sense to me, relates to me, resonates with me and also strikes a chord with me. It puts everything into perspective. The point being, I haven’t looked at things from the kind of angle that would allow me to become the sort of person I visualize myself to be…
Have a very happy New Year!
