I would bet at some point in time we all could have used a simple guide to better relationships. How are your yours working out? Everything hunky dory, or could they use a little boost? If there are times when you’re feeling a little insecure, a little neglected, or even a little put out, pull up a chair because I have a story to tell you. Let’s begin with the fact that everything we do stems from what we think, what we believe, what we say. We think we have freedom of action, but what we have is freedom to react – to events and people, to what we see or what we read, yet what we’re reacting to is ourself. Now that’s a kettle of fish of a different order. Forgetting this, my friend Jen found herself regularly upset with her husband, not that he was an awful, scary, cheating…

Updated August 2021 Sitting watching kids at play in the park I was struck by their use of imagination. Imagination is the heart of who they are…and truth be told it’s the heart of who you are…who I am. But for young children it’s a smooth easy flowing experience that’s as natural as breathing. One minute they’re pirates afloat on a stormy sea, the next super heroes, rescuing the world from it’s latest peril. They float between the worlds of imagination and reality with ease. Us grownups, not so much. Whatever happened? Wherever did all that creative imagination go? For some of us it was stifled, and ended up in a power suit and sent into the world of ‘serious business’. But mostly, at some point we simply stopped seeing ourselves as imaginative, creative beings. In a longintudal study created by NASA they found that out of 1,600 children aged…

A miracle isn’t a host of angels appearing with flashing neon signs signaling your next ginormous spiritual expansion. Not that it can’t be I suppose. Usually it isn’t. The change in how we see an event, a person, ourselves or our world is the real miracle. And as Marcus Aurelius said so beautifully, everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. So how about taking the time to recognize those every day, ordinary miracles that occur in your world. Little miracles that might actually be the signal of your spiritual expansion, or your new ability to view your world and your life with a little more love. If we can just begin to see a relationship through different eyes, or the experience we just had that didn’t feel so good, in a different light, we could have new thoughts and…

Oh would some power the gift to give us, to see ourselves as others see us. ~ Robert Burns Yes I translated it from the actual Scottish which talks about gifties and gies because even I, a Scottish lassie, have to think about it and I didn’t want to impose the mysteries of the Scots language on you! I’m nice like that. How do I know if I have negative beliefs, when I’m not aware of them? I was asked this recently and thought it such a great question that I needed to write about it. Whilst pondering the question the words of Robert Burns…that old Scottish poet got stuck in my head. Rabbie Burns, as he’s known in the land of his birth, is a great reminder of how your world is exactly the way it is because it mirrors precisely the beliefs you hold. And it’s pretty easy…

[success]It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision. ~ Helen Keller[/success] What was your vision for the day?  Did you decide beforehand you you’d feel when the day was over? Were you following your dreams? Did you ask yourself what you wanted to do, or what you needed to do?  And did you choose? Anything. Or did you wander from task to task, putting some off here, or wanting to get another just perfect? Did you have any sense of purpose today? I know I fall short here…more often than I care to admit. Working on it. I mean well, but there are times when my follow through is less than stellar. Two things stand in my way.  Even though I’ve begun to imagine it being other than this in my life, the reality hasn’t yet caught up with how it’s working out in my mind’s eye. So…
