I would bet at some point in time we all could have used a simple guide to better relationships. How are your yours working out? Everything hunky dory, or could they use a little boost? If there are times when you’re feeling a little insecure, a little neglected, or even a little put out, pull up a chair because I have a story to tell you. Let’s begin with the fact that everything we do stems from what we think, what we believe, what we say. We think we have freedom of action, but what we have is freedom to react – to events and people, to what we see or what we read, yet what we’re reacting to is ourself. Now that’s a kettle of fish of a different order. Forgetting this, my friend Jen found herself regularly upset with her husband, not that he was an awful, scary, cheating…

No matter who we are, what we’ve done or where we’ve been we have limitations that hold us back and impact our life. The challenge is which limitations are pretty good, like the ones that keep us safe and those that are not so great – like the ones that hold us back or cause us misery, or unhappiness and loss of health and wellbeing? Some common limitations that hold you back Nobody would be interested in my ideas. I don’t have the skills. I’m not going to be successful so there’s no point in trying. I don’t feel like I could give enough value. Getting my hopes up always leads to disappointment. There’s too much competition. I don’t have enough experience. I’m not creative. I could never do it. It’s not perfect, I need more time. I’m not good enough. I have to fix ____ before I can _______…

[success] It is the mind that maketh good or ill, that maketh wretch or happy, rich or poor. ~ Michel de Montaigne [/success] Michel de Montaigne, wrote  – “What do I know?” way back in 1580. I think it became his motto for life. And that’s a long blooming time ago.  So what does it have to do with us today and those golden opportunities? You might well ask. He thought humanity [is it possible he had you and me in mind?] was mentally unstable, definitely not very consistent, contradictory and often filled with self-doubt and uncertainty.  And ever since he wrote that, people have been paying attention to their consciousness in one way or another. Which leads directly to the question. What goes on in your mind? We don’t have to be totally awake and aware to find that sometimes our thoughts run round and round, hither and thither, back and…

I’ve never actually tripped…like on magic mushrooms or something…but I have tripped over things on the floor.  So when I first heard the story of the the thirty foot by one foot plank placed on the floor that everyone could easily walk over, I thought to myself…maybe. That however wasn’t the point of the story and for those who’ve never heard it – here it is. If said plank were on your living room floor and someone said I want you to walk the plank. it’d be a piece of cake.  You wouldn’t give it a second thought.  Easy peasy. What if same plank were strung between two high rise buildings some fifty feet or more in the air, what then?  Could you walk across it with the same aplomb? (I’ve been waiting to use that word for ever.) The answer is, it’s doubtful that you could. So what’s the…
