George Eliot was an English author who had to use a man’s name in order to be taken seriously as a writer.  Imagine that…on second thought, don’t let’s imagine that. She had to work at becoming an author.  Mary Ann, her real name,  penned the phrase  “It’s never too late to be who you might have been.” I don’t know about you, but that’s great news for me since I’m always in the process of becoming. For anyone else out there, who’s in the process of becoming and plans to continue becoming, don’t ever think it’s too late…you probably have a lot more time than you think. Phyllis Turner was ninety four, yep you read that right, ninety four when she got her Medical Science Masters Degree from Adelaide University.  Woo hoo…you go girl. Harriet Doerr had her first novel published at the age of seventy four and won that…

In art appreciation at school, our teacher was fond of telling us that Vincent van Gogh said he would dream his paintings and then paint his dream. I could never paint worth a lick, but I was a pretty good dreamer, so I used to imagine having really cool dreams and wake up, painting this: Oh wait, he got there first.  Starry Night, looks like a dream of the night, but chances are that he used his awakened imagination. If life was a painting, what would you fill your canvas with?  That’s always a good place to start, answering the question what do I want? There have been times in my life when I wasn’t really certain what I wanted and my mum would say, well just choose something that feels good until you know what you really want. And that turned out to be excellent advice because, at…

Steve Bow said “God’s gift to us is more talent and ability than we’ll ever hope to use in our lifetime.  Our gift to God is to develop as much of that talent and ability as we can in this lifetime.” If you look around…if you pay attention you will see that every day there is on display, in one form or another, the incredible talent of humanity. When I first came to the States one thing really stood out for me…in every town I visited, however small, wherever it was, there would be an arts festival, or a craft show.  The talent was amazing.  I will ‘fess up right here and now…I can’t sew…don’t knit… and am unable to draw or paint. In fact we have a five year old in the family who is truly beginning to feel sorry for my lack of ability in this department. As…

We took a trip to the Dali Museum and at the risk of sounding like a philistine…well let’s just say it’s not my cup of tea. The building itself is interesting enough, now that’s damning with faint praise if ever I heard it, and there are those who have called it spectacular…but not me. But I did like this concept and kudos to the dreamers who brought their dream to fruition. Art, like most things of course, is in the eye of the beholder, its so subjective.   My Darling One thought it was pretty cool and I can at some level see why.  I honestly can appreciate that many do enjoy Dali’s work and certainly his early period has a quality to it that resonated with me, yet…and here comes the but…I couldn’t help feeling here was someone with a great sense of humor who was playing an outlandish trick…
