You and I are alike.
No matter who you are, where you live, your education, your lifestyle, whether you’re succeeding or struggling, we have something in common.
We want to improve our lives. We want to better ourselves, not because there’s anything wrong with us, but because there’s another chapter of our life we want to live.
The thing is, we all want to be happy. The sad thing is we’re too busy to do what it takes to be happy. Too busy paying attention to what makes us unhappy.
You’ve probably asked yourself, why does this keep happening to me and how can I change it?
Good question.
Let’s step forward together and enter a whole new world, one in which you’re the creating force. One where you no longer cripple your chances of greater success.
1. The first thing you need to do
Make a decision today to stop dreaming about the things you wish you had in your life. Stop putting your desires and wishes away in a ‘someday’ file.
Give yourself a little space to unlock your inner power and listen to the truth of your heart right now.
Ask yourself what do I need to change about me to live the life that I really, really want?
It’s called ‘your life’ for a reason…no one else will be living it and it can only become greater when YOU decide to make it so. When you decide to take the initiative and choose to give yourself the gift of a rich, rewarding life.
2. Rise above it all
Do something different. Choose one thing, one ordinary thing, and decide to do it extraordinarily well. You’ll begin to build self confidence, self knowledge, and trust.
You might not know what you’re capable of yet. But neither does anyone else. Don’t allow the disbelief and negativity of others drag you down. Whatever anyone says or does, life goes on. You can resist it, fight it, wallow in it or you can rise above the ordinary and let nothing stand in the way of your dreams.
3. Doubt the doubters
Don’t allow or accept things that abuse your spirit. You’re stronger than you think. Enlarge the picture you have of yourself and stop ignoring the greatness within. You have incredible power at your disposal, be inspired to use it for your greater good.
There’s an enormous capacity for change within you, if you want it. But in the end it’s your own discipline, your own desires to make something happen, that bring your dreams to life.
4. Stand up and be counted
Make today the day you decide to stop living a small life. You have a destiny to fulfill, a phenomenal potential to realize.
Today, stop playing small and begin to live your purpose. Make this choice and you’ll be nourished with energy, inspiration and new ideas.
Everything you need to be happier, to make changes, is already yours, including the freedom to do something and the freedom not to do anything. If you can’t find a good reason to keep going, find a reason to start over. Stand up and be counted. You matter. You deserve a great life.
5. Turn up the effort
Make up your mind that you CAN do what you love. You don’t have to do what you hate. You have great things to contribute to the world. Nourish your desires and dreams today and stop waiting for ‘some day’ to arrive.
And then don’t stop trying. The answer to living life at higher levels is to become more than you are, so you can attract more than you have. This is the basic foundation of a great life.
Make the effort. Your life is worth your effort.
Don’t ever stop trying.
6. Get on board for your future
Your mind can be your greatest enemy or your best friend. It’s the place where all your doubts and fears live. You have to become master of your thoughts or they will master you.
Everything changes for the better when your thoughts change for the better.
Remember whatever you’re thinking about is setting up your future. When you mentally speak worry to yourself you’re setting up your future. When you speak gratitude, you’re setting up your future.
7. Be unstoppable
It’s true that you won’t always have positive thoughts, you won’t always be confident, you won’t always live in faith. But thoughts of confidence, positivity and faith can be your main focus. No one else is thinking your thoughts. YOU are the thinker, you are the chooser.
And remember you’ll always have the same experiences, the same setbacks and disappointments, live in the same place, have the same kind of career if you don’t change yourself.
You have to figure out what’s important to you because your results are determined by the being you’re in the process of becoming. Don’t let anything or anyone get in your way.
8. Accept the challenge
Complaints, drama and excuses can’t and won’t get you anywhere you truly want to go. To much negativity merely robs you of the bounty of the world. People who earn big money aren’t smarter, or get more breaks or are luckier or have more expertise than you. These are the excuses we use because we’re afraid we aren’t up for the challenge..
Let’s be honest, let’s admit we really didn’t try and keep trying, so we’ve been dreaming up excuses.
Those who enjoy great success and joy and fulfillment in life decided to do so. They made it their business to be the person who experienced all the richness that life has to offer.
You are just as capable of discovering and using everything you need to be as rich, happy and successful as you want to be.
9. What are you for?
It’s easy to be against things. It’s easy to look at what others are doing successfully and say ‘it doesn’t work for me’. It’s easy to find the evidence to support your beliefs for why you’re not happy, why love is hard to find, why money seems to flow in the wrong direction.
Being against something won’t cause it to disappear. Won’t be the end of it. And having a truck load of things to be against creates a mental attitude of resistance. Truth be told, being against things is turning your focus onto stuff you don’t want.
10. Mother Teresa did it, how about you?
Many of us unknowingly use our beliefs against ourselves. Having money problems? Look at your beliefs about money. Problems with health or love, look closely at the beliefs you hold, they’re holding you back.
Find what you can be for instead of against. Try the Mother Teresa attitude. She wouldn’t march against war, but would march for peace.
Open yourself only to those influences that are positive, nurturing, uplifting, inspiring and encouraging and close yourself to those that are not. The ideas that dominant your mind are the ones that impel you to action So focus on ideas you want to materialize in your world.
11. You need a daily workout
What if your life was so full, so rich and overflowing that ‘someday’ could never be better than this day?
You’d better get your muscles in shape.
Your mental attention muscle is the foundation for living better days, every day. And it needs a regular workout!
One way to support the development your attention muscle is by focusing on the events of the day in reverse order. Its not easy, but it’s a surefire way to develop your ability to keep your attention on the things that you want.
Just before bed, begin to go through your day right up to this point. Start by seeing yourself get get out of bed and take it from there, running through the events of your day, right up to the present moment.
12. Never be fooled again
Stop focusing on limitations, see opportunities. Stop focusing on what went wrong, see the growth. Don’t be fooled by difficulties and problems, they all have solutions.
Instead of grumbling about lack, decide what it is you want out of life. Better health? Keep your attention on feeling healthy. More prosperity? Practice putting your attention on feeling prosperous. More happiness? Apply your attention to feeling happy?
13. Up your game
Everything already exists as a possibility. Your job is to develop and direct your attention away from thoughts that harm, and towards those that help.
Stop settling for a life that’s far below your promise and possibilities. Happiness and success won’t be found by hanging on to your old mind set. Up your game and don’t settle for a life that’s far, far below the one you deserve.
Love yourself enough to stop crippling your chances of success. Your attention is a powerful force that influences every aspect of your life, and it’s the main cause of your success or failure.
At the end of the day everyone deserves a truly beautiful life, and you and only you, can decide how to live it. If it doesn’t work out the way you’d like you have the power to change it.
I’m excited to hear your take on becoming the one you’re destined to be. I love adding your shared perspectives and ideas to mine, so please share them in the comments below.

This question popped out for me in bright lights: “Ask yourself what do I need to change about me to live the life that I really, really want?” It’s a big question, isn’t it! But one that really goes to the essence of positive change.
I’m going to give this question it’s due time! I’m just now reflecting and bringing closure to the last 12 years of my life. So this is a perfect question for moving forward with the next 12 years!
Hi Sandra, I read your wonderful post and it never occurred to me that the question I asked here was pertinent. But now you’ve said it, the link is clear. And you’re right it is a big question and probably one we should ask ourselves more frequently than we do. 🙂
Thank you for my morning read. I just turned 27 yesterday and the amount of stress and anxiety that takes over me is unbelievable. Im still trying to find the meaning of life and what is my purpose. I am trying my best to kill stress and reading your blog really helps. My mind is my best friend and worst enemy. I have a lot going on right now and I will try my best to think more positive. There is a whole lot of life to live and discover. Thank you.
Welcome Ezmeralda, how lovely to meet you. It isn’t easy to move out of stress and anxiety…but the good thing here is your awareness. With awareness we can begin to change anything, without it, we’re pretty much stuck. Check out my ‘about’ page – you’ll discover you’re not alone in the finding purpose stakes and my system might very well help! You have an amazing life ahead of you. 🙂
Nicely done, Elle. I particularly liked your rule of being For not against. What you resist does persisist.
Hello Dore. As always I do appreciate you stopping by and sharing your perspective. Cheers! 🙂

Hi Erynn, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment…it’s so encouraging to know that the words I write are supportive and helpful. Now I want to hear about all you successes as you move forward! 🙂
Another wonderful article, Elle !
Your concept of “a daily workout” in regards to mindful marshaling of our mental/imaginal power really resonated with me.
Why Not – invest positive thoughts, daily – Why Not – celebrate gratitude, daily – Why Not – highly value our own future, daily . . .
Write on , Elle ! ! !
Hello Joseph, it’s been a while…lovely to see you again. I like your ‘why not’ ideas…in fact every time I think I can’t do something I’m going to add, why not? Clearly the biggest reason ‘why not’ would be ‘I believe I can’t’ and why not will be a good reminder that I can. Thanks for the insight. It’s amazing how sharing our thoughts is so beneficial. 🙂
Hi, as always, your post are really very informative and very encouraging. We all have what it takes to fulfill our goals and we truly deserve to have a good life. Thanks for sharing.

It’s funny that full circle thing isn’t it Suzie. I wonder how many full circles we’ve come to already in life. And I’d bet money on it we’ve got quite a lot more to go. Doncha love that? 🙂
What a wonderful post. Make a decision today to stop dreaming about the things you wish you had in your life. Stop putting your desires and wishes away in a ‘someday’ file. I love this statement as it is a reminder that we can start now to become what we intend to be rather wish what you want to be.
Thanks Elle. So awesome
