[success]It’s not more knowledge, it’s not more education, it’s not more facts that we need. It’s a better use of what we already have that we need to have. You have, within, each and every one of you, a potential power right now to do a wonderful job in your chosen field…if you would only embrace it and use it. ~ Napoleon Hill[/success]
Why is it easy for some to live happy, wonderfully productive and fulfilling lives, while others flounder and struggle? Do you find yourself reaching for that unlimited life of possibility and potential and somehow consistently miss the mark, leaving your dreams sitting on the table?
We are all creatures of habit and it’s time to stop allowing yourself to be limited and controlled by habits that no longer serve you.
Enough of leaving those dreams on the table.
You can’t always get what you want…But if you try sometimes well you might find
You get what you need ~ so went The Rolling Stones song.
But you can break free…drop the very things that have hampered your victories. Allow your incomparable, brilliant self to flourish.
If you’ve fallen, it’s time to get up. You’ve been gifted with a magnificent inner power, and you can direct it wherever you choose. To change your reality, you have to change yourself; unless your methods change your reality never will.
The missing ingredient
We must look for ways to be an active force in our own lives. We must take charge of our own destinies, design a life of substance and truly begin to live our dreams. ~ Les Brown
You have the same powers, the same mental faculties and use the same laws as everyone else.
To move forward in life you must first acknowledge where you are.
It’s essential to recognize that outer solutions are temporary fixes, with permanence a missing ingredient. Without an inner and persistent effort, even the best ideas only work for a little while.
Good ideas and good intentions aren’t enough.
If you want to make changes and stick with them it’s necessary to use the way the mind works to your benefit. All too frequently and often unknowingly, you use your mind to talk you out of following your dreams.
Why do you do what you do?
Paradigms. Your paradigms are running your life. Your mindsets, your ideas, those little habits of thinking that you’ve developed over the years are holding you back.
Looking at the steps you take and the decisions you make, would someone be able to see where you were heading? Would your goal be clear?
If your world is to be vastly different tomorrow it will be because your actions are vastly different today. You can’t act in the same way and expect a different result. Success doesn’t rest on intellect and techniques or even wisdom, it’s rooted in your mindset. Change your mind and change your life…true words.
Accept some new beliefs
Incredible as it is, beliefs are so powerful that they don’t even have to be true to have an impact on how you operate in the world. All that’s required is that you believe something to be true.
Whatever you believe about you will prove to be correct. Believe you can’t do something and you won’t do it. Believe you don’t have the necessary skills, or you don’t have enough time to accomplish something, or you’ll never amount to much and you’ll be believing yourself right out of your dreams.
Remember this, whatever you consistently tell yourself, be it true or false, your subconscious will accept it as though it were a fact and begin to produce the evidence in the shape of circumstances and events in your world.
Get a grip on your attitude
The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Do you understand? ~ Captain Jack Sparrow
One thing you have complete and absolute control of is your attitude. The way you choose to view the experiences you have.
Most people have a combination of how they view the world and the attitudes they bring to each situation. Some good, some not so good.
Consider what a positive attitude brings to the table. An empowered attitude can carry you over a multitude of hurdles. By choosing to respond positively to events and conditions in your life you become more aware of possibilities than problems. Practice it and note the dividends it pays.
Power of feelings
You are an amazing, inspiring, beautiful soul, but unless you feel and believe this you will never act as though this were the magnificent truth of you.
If your paradigms are positive, you set up positive feelings.
A happy, growth oriented paradigm creates a healthy self-image and chances are high that you have a happy, growth oriented life, and a healthy self-image. Negative paradigms keep you living small, away from the greatness and possibilities that you’re capable of.
The way you feel about your love life, your health, your success or your capabilities determines how you’ll behave.
If there’s a negative situation to be handled, do nothing until you take the time to centre yourself in a positive feeling space. The way you speak, the thoughts you have and the outcome you experience are totally dependent on the feeling place you occupy when dealing with any challenge.
Love yourself enough to believe in you. Be true to your dreams and goals.
Understand that your goals and dreams aren’t to get something, but to grow, to reach inside and stretch yourself. To go where you’ve never been before and develop and expand as a human being.
Bottom line
Your paradigms, your beliefs, your attitudes and your feelings determine your actions. And then you get your results.
Dream great dreams, there’s no more powerful force for change than those inspired by their dreams. Believe in your dreams. What kind of life, what kind of person are you choosing to see because it’s your responsibility to materialize it.
In the comments below, I’d love to hear from you.
Have you had to shift your attitudes, beliefs or how you felt about something in order to move onto something new.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this one.
As always, thank you for contributing to and sharing these posts so generously.
Encourage one another.
Love Elle

Hi Elle,
You can always get what you want if you are prepared to do something about it. Wishes are for fairies, action taking is for those who turn “wants” into “haves”.
Flick the switch, change attitudes if you are falling behind. Thanks for the butt kick.
Be good to yourself
David
Hi David, isn’t that the truth…wishes just don’t cut it. It’s amazing what a shift in attitude will do for us when we’re treading water. 🙂
Love this quote Elle, “The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Do you understand? ~ Captain Jack Sparrow
It’s so true and something that can be changed if some effort is put into it. Thanks for a great post!
I just had to use that quote Melissa, it was so perfect and so flipping true. Appreciate you stopping by, thank you. 🙂
I don’t always get what I want, but I do always get what I expect! The key is to expect and prepare for your desires. Love the Rolling Stones example.
Good to remember that I really can “get satisfaction”!
Hopefully Dore you’re expecting the best, so in effect you’ll be getting what you want. That’s great news. 🙂
“Outer solutions are temporary fixes.” That’s a great takeaway Elle! It reminds me to stop looking to the actions of others to validate success or determine what my next steps are. Your post serves as a great reminder to look within and let who I am and what I want determine how to get it! Thank you!
Hi Victor, I love the way you put that Victor, letting who you are and what you want dictate your actions is a great way to go. And that’s spurred me on too. Thank you. 🙂
Hi Elle,
Excellent and inspiring post, my friend!
I could really resonate with what you wrote about the power of feelings. When we’re feeling less than resourceful it impacts everything we do including our behaviours and what we say, or don’t say. The advice you shared about not attempting to deal with a challenge until we’ve centered ourselves in a positive feeling space is brilliant.
Thank you.
Hi Hiten, so happy that you enjoyed the post. I’m liking the word ‘brilliant’ – it’s feeling good! 🙂
Another fabulous post, Elle! I learn some much every time I come to your blog!
Hi Jessica…thanks for taking the time to stop by and say so. 🙂
Yes I have made many shifts, especially in the past 2 years. To get what i want I am learning that the more I go within and listen to my heart/my soul the more I get what I want.
love the use of the Beatles xx
Hi Suzie, evolving beings that we are kind of means shifts are inevitable don’t they? Love that you’re in the state of being able to hear your higher self. Not all of us get to do that easily, we probably need to practice a bit to catch up with you. 🙂
Elle – thank you for this wonderful post. I do believe that we have that power within to create our dreams. We have to allow ourselves to see it and prepare for it. I think so many let old disappointments stand in the way of moving forward with their dreams – old hurts and belief systems built on those hurts. When we finally understand that nothing is standing in our way but these untrue beliefs, we can start living our dreams. It’s amazing how trapped we can let ourselves feel, when in truth we are completely free to create the life we want.
Thank you as always sharing your wisdom! xo
Hi Karen, thanks for sharing your insights on the topic. You make a great point about how we often live in a prison of our own making, never realising the power that we have. 🙂
Love the comment from “Capt. Jack Sparrow”… No truer words have been spoken, even by a pirate!
Amazing how Pirates sometimes have the wisest words Cher! 🙂
Elle,
I love the title of this post! This point struck me in particular, “It’s essential to recognize that outer solutions are temporary fixes, with permanence a missing ingredient. Without an inner and persistent effort, even the best ideas only work for a little while.”
I’ve had to shift my attitude many times! I had a terrible attitude about stress, but once I took responsibility for the stress in my life I learned I can get a handle on it.
Hi Sandra, that’s pretty cool that you persisted in an attitude shift. What did you find was different in how you managed stress? 🙂
Hi Elle,
Your Rolling Stones title sure did grab me. I really appreciate your encouragement— which I felt was written just for me. You said, “You’ve been gifted with a magnificent inner power.” Because so often personal development coaches/writers are trying to get us to arrive somewhere, but rarely reveal what’s we’ve already been given to work with.
But what you’re saying is that, there’s already something on the inside of us. It’s like a breath of fresh air, I’ll tell ya! I really appreciate you insights. I receive it for myself. Thank you!
Aloha,
Robb
Hi Robb welcome to the conversation. I’m happy that my article reminded you of your magnificent inner power. It creates a wonderful shift just to be aware that it’s there, I think. And we then get to approach life from a new, more empowered perspective. 🙂
Hi Elle,
Yes, I had to shift my attitude so many times in order to be embrace the new. And I am glad that I did so. Clinging on to old ideas and beliefs that no longer serve me has kept me stuck. I have never felt better since!
Hi Evelyn it’s always great to hear success stories – it encourages us all. It’s great that shifting attitudes now has you in a great feeling state. Woohoo to you. 🙂
Hi Elle,
What a great post! “If there’s a negative situation to be handled, do nothing until you take the time to center yourself in a positive feeling space.” This is so true, because nothing meaningful can be created out of a negative state of being and whatever we do out of this state will always be felt as hard work. In order to achieve great things and to enjoy taking action, we first must move into a state of love, passion and excitement for what we intend to do.
Hi Robert, love the way you put your insights about moving into a state of love for what we intend to do. Superb. 🙂
I use to sing that to my son all the time when he was little; because he couldn’t always get what he wanted, but now that he’s in college I tell him he can get whatever he wants – he just has to go for it.
That’s so cute Linda, funny how we alter our viewpoint with our kids depending on where they are in life! 🙂
Hi Elle,
I love, love, love your title! It is does take action on our part to get what we want. For me getting out of my comfort zone and taking a risk can make the difference. Staying focused and letting go of ideas that keep me stuck helps as well! Thanks for a great post!
Thanks Cathy, it just struck me when I was writing the post. I think I write backwards. Put together the post and then decide on a title! Like what you say about comfort zones, they’re just too flipping cozy. How do you manage to let go of ideas that keep you stuck? Would love to hear more on that. 🙂
Hi Elle; I love how you are always encouraging us to find that special part of ourselves that is buried deep inside and let it out. I have been putting it out there I want to take my youtube show on the road and am looking for ways to fund it or for people to help with camera or production skills. I got a couple of negative comments, but my immediate reply was I am working on something special that i believe in and I know eventually i will find a way to make it happen. So far I had received offers from two production companies to partner with me on this project. And several friends have written about how to use crowd sourcing to raise the funds to get it going. And this is in just a few days of looking for these answers. Whether you call it God the universe or your higher power help is out there just waiting for you to send out the right mindset to let it know that you are ready to be blessed lad taught, etc. Thanks again for the post and take care, max
With a community of encouragers such as this one, we all raise one another to new levels Max and I thank you for being one of them. 🙂
