Be it mental order or physical order…I have been known to be a bit undisciplined.
I’m not that keen on appointments at specified hours, unless it’s for lunch or coffee and doughnuts, then I’m there with bells on.
Point being, order isn’t my natural state, and so I tend to try to limit things happening at an appointed hour. And that’s not always easy!
Healthy disciplines do matter
Even in my rather undisciplined life I get that there are some disciplines that are necessary for my health and well being.
If we have any habits of negative inner conversations they must be replaced. Always assuming we don’t want more negativity heading our way.
You know the ones…those negative inner conversations we have with ourselves about whether we’re good enough. Whether we’re deserving. Whether others like us.
These things we say to ourselves only have the power to make us feel unhappy if we buy in to them. So don’t do this dear ones.
They’re just old habits and can be given the old heave-ho, like any other old habit that doesn’t serve us well.
The simple way to eliminate a habit we don’t like is to replace it with another, better one, and habits work for us when we apply them daily. If it sounds like a discipline, it is and it’s one even I can relate to.
Bear in mind that what we say to ourselves is:
(a) just a habit, yet it’s a habit that works against us if its negative and if our self talk is positive then it obviously works towards our happier, better life.
and
(b) habits are powerless once we take back control of our thinking. Now I like this one…a lot.
How long to replace negative inner conversations?
We’ve all heard that it takes twenty one days to change a habit, but that doesn’t work in my world.
It might in yours. But for me its more like sixty or ninety days, especially when the habit is deeply ingrained. And that, my friends, is going to require discipline.
So about two years ago I started a ninety day programme.
It takes five minutes a day…even I can manage that.
Sometimes I choose a virtue I’d like more of to focus on, such as ‘I’m highly organized’.
Other times it’ll be more of a spiritual nature…one that worked really well for me was ‘I’m a high vibrational being, filled with love and light.’
It can be anything you want to experience or have that isn’t in your world right now or you want more of.
Having to start over, helps to stick with it!
For five minutes every day, I contemplate the idea I want impressed into my sub-concious mind and as thoughts come into my head I write them down.
Maybe I’ll write for three minutes out of the five, maybe only one.
It might be a long screed or a single sentence.
Doesn’t really matter.
It’s the doing it every day for ninety days. And here’s the rub…and I can speak to this really well…if you miss a day, you have to begin again! It’s happened to me on more than one occasion…try three or four.
But no matter, every day we are more and more in control of our inner conversation thus more and more the one who is leading their best life so far.
After all, your consciousness produces your reality and your consciousness is what you’re thinking, feeling, believing, accepting or reacting to – so why not be smart and keep it focused on the greatest things we can. And if I can change a habit that has been producing a less than lovely reality, I’m more than willing to be disciplined.
So think happy thoughts, it’s that simple.
And you can do this my lovelies.
Once we become aware that we have a choice of thoughts, in the same way that we have a choice of what to wear every day, then we can choose moods and thoughts that make positive changes in our life.
Your life won’t turn around overnight, but if you persist, if you make the choice every day to think thoughts that make you feel good, you’ll definitely see changes in your world.
You can do this. Always remember you have choices.
My thought for the day. Happy thoughts and happy feelings produce a wonderful day for me.
Encourage one another.
Love Elle.

Hi Elle,
Habits can keep us stuck. I like your 5 min. a day routine. That would work for me as well. There are a few habits that I am continuing to try and instill in my everyday routine, such as meditation and daily journal writing. They both help me connect with my inner feelings. Thanks for the inspiration!
It’s amazing Cathy, the difference five minutes a day can make. I’ve learned to set my phone alarm for 55 minutes every hour, especially when I’m on my computer, so I can take a break, re-focus my attention on a happy outcome, or just chill. 🙂
I appreciate this direction. Much needed in my life!
Love this. I have been using a cool online journal tool: http://www.750words.com. What you write is ‘secret’ but the site gives you interesting statistics and insights into what you’re thinking/feeling based on what you write.
What a cool idea Katrina. Will check out the site…and thanks for sharing. 🙂
Five minutes a day is manageable. I like that.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Jack. Five minutes doesn’t seem so bad does it…but…always a but…I have found that there are times when I’ve been on holiday, or wasn’t feeling so good, or whatever the excuse is, that I could still miss that five minutes and then it was starting over. Not so good when you’re on day 80!
