We don’t get a chance to do that many things, and every one should be really excellent. Because this is our life. ~ Steve Jobs

It’s doubtful that you got out of bed this morning and said, today I’m only going to live in a half-hearted sort of way.
Yet, it often seems as though we’ve forgotten how to live joyfully. And everything that shows up in our life…every circumstance, and every event seem so concrete, so permanent, that the idea of living differently, living with genuine heartfelt passion and enthusiasm seems totally unattainable.
Except it isn’t.
It’s tragic. It’s tragic that we don’t or we can’t.
Stuff happens. Life happens and it can be challenging and demanding. We have all sorts of issues to handle from the day to day mundane to the extraordinary, to the ‘where on earth did that come from’ event.
Truth be told we all have those days when we’re worn out and feeling weary, and when it feels as though we’ve lost our way.
But if you prefer to live a life on your terms, to live a life of success and personal excellence here’s 5 keys to help you do just that.
1. Never give up on yourself
This is it.
This is your life and it is precious.
Don’t relinquish your power, don’t resign yourself to living a mediocre life and believing that’s all there is. That’s just how it has to be.
Don’t give up on yourself. But…
Do give up on comparing yourself to others, because you have something unique to offer that they don’t. There is no one form of talent that we all should have. You have been blessed with gifts and talents that are all your own. You are valuable just as you are.
And do give up on seeing life as a winning or losing proposition. It isn’t. It’s up and down, it ebbs and flows; each moment bringing an opportunity to grow or to step back into the safety that will strangle your creativity and innovation and blind you to your potential.
But never, ever give up on yourself. Remember, most of the important things in life have happened because someone simply wouldn’t give up on who they were and what they could accomplish.
2. Demand more
You are part of the divine. A being of incredible potential.
And wonderful as that is, it doesn’t come with any guarantees. It doesn’t mean you will get to live a life of abundance, health, happiness, success and personal excellence. It just means you can. And everything you do or don’t do towards that end matters.
If you sleep in, instead of going to the gym, or meditating, it matters. If you play another game on one of your devices instead of reading that book, it matters. If you don’t get to that seminar, or don’t choose a healthy diet, it matters. It affects your consciousness, your mind- set and your philosophy of life. And they matter most of all.
It all comes down to a couple of things; learn more than you knew yesterday, and be better than you’ve been before.
Demand greater things from yourself.
Venture away from what you know. Expand your horizons. Read more. Plan more. Expect more.
You are strong and capable and filled to overflowing with potential.
Don’t waste it.
[tweetthis]If you want lousy things to stop happening, stop accepting them. Demand more.[/tweetthis]
3. You are who you choose to be
Stop wishing you could be different. Be different. Now. Today.
Stop hoping for a crop you haven’t sown. Plant the one you want.
Stop wasting your energies on excuses. Use them for solutions.
Stop yearning to be a different person. Decide who you want to be and set about bringing your greatest self to life and if you find later on, and you probably will, that you have a new desire to be someone even greater, go for that too. You are up for the challenge, embrace your fantastic self.
Begin now.
Be epic.
Unleash your inner flamboyance, be colourful, be dazzling.
Act as if who you are is making a difference. Because it is.
Challenge the status quo and give life your all, give it your heart and soul and begin to live the life you deserve. Discover how incredibly capable you are.
Remember you already are the person you want to become…you just can’t see it yet. It’s up to you to bring this self to life. This successful, happy, abundant self is yours for the taking. It’s time to recognize your value and appreciate your accomplishments.
Believe in better. Imagine better and let today be the day you act on it.
4. Use the boy scout’s motto
Believe in yourself, believe you’re stunningly capable and have the potential to achieve anything you set your mind to. Your beliefs help to make your reality.
Then like all good boy scouts, be prepared.
Be prepared for the opportunities, for the phone call that could change your world, for the meeting that’s about to make all the difference. Be prepared, in the expectation that life can take your breath away with excitement any moment now.
Just as you’d prepare a business plan before starting a new business, just as you’d prepare for parenthood when expecting a first child, just as you’d prepare the soil before planting your crop, being prepared for life takes the same amount of determination, belief and action.
The thoughts, feelings and actions of today determine your future. Be excited by the future you see in your mind’s eye and then allow these good feelings to influence and inspire your actions.
Ask yourself every day, what effortless action could I take this day that would develop greater health, success and personal excellence? And then do more than you thought you could.
Remember procrastination is nature’s silent assassin, killing your dreams and making the simple tasks seem ultra hard. Don’t allow it to rob you of your fabulous future.
5. Spiritually speaking
You can’t simply act differently and find that everything in your life becomes different and stays that way. No one can.
Everything depends upon your attitude to yourself. Turn away from trying to change the world and begin by changing how you see the world and how you see yourself.
You have been blessed with the ability to change your life, one thought, one belief at a time. To reach a higher level of being you must assume a new concept of yourself, you must concentrate your attention on being the greatest expression of your spirit and purpose. The outer world might have an influence on how you see yourself; but your inner world has the ultimate say on who you truly are.

Hello Jenny, woohoo to you. You go girl. I KNOW you can do this too. You are a powerful, capable wise woman about to take life to the next level and I’m right there with you. Let’s do this! 🙂
I am a recent empty nester having parented two daughters. Now I find myself in a mode of discovery and fearlessness that was on the shelf as I was busy growing them. My parents gave me the best life and now I understand why they did it. Love is the best gift and weapon to fight life’s battles. THANKS Elle for sharing love through your work.
How lovely Margaret that your parents gave you such a wonderful life. I absolutely 100% agree that love is what we need more of in our life and in our world. May your fearlessness and discovery lead you to amazing experiences of love and light in your world. 🙂
Hi, Thanks for your great article. Actually, I think All these means is that instead of hiding from failure, insanely successful people anticipate and integrate failure into their lives in ways that transform it from an end into a means. We all love a good secret. But the truth is, when it comes to success, there’s no such thing. So start small, but start today. Wish you all the best.
I really needed to read this article today. It’s difficult to get your life together by yourself, with out the tools/knowledge of how to do so. Just like Elle said, one thing isn’t going to fix all and so after reading this I can’t expect every problem to go away, but this gave me a lot of hope. 🙂
Glad to hear the article was helpful Hannah. And hope is vital in the process of getting our life together.
