How to Overcome the Major Obstacles to Happiness

obstacles to happiness

You want to be happy, right?

Of course you do, who doesn’t?  It’s a given.

So what’s stopping us?

What are the major obstacles to happiness that we seem to trip over too regularly for my liking!

I’m not planning on pulling any punches here.

So if you really aren’t sure you want to take a good look at yourself and what those obstacles to happiness are that keep getting in your way, now’s probably a good time to leave!

But for all you other brave hearted souls…here’s some things that might need a little adjustment.

You’ve given up control over the things you can control

Life is filled with things over which we have no control. Even though lots of us still try to control it all.  I know this well…I used to be one of them.

But if you’ve given up the things you do have some control over, this dear heart, is a major obstacle to your happiness.

So what do you have some control over that you might have given up on?

Well you  have major control over your perspective on life.  You have major control over the thoughts you think.  Though I admit it isn’t always easy to rein in that monkey mind.  But it can be done.

You have major control over the choices you make that will chart your way towards new opportunities, even if you’ve been blown off course by incredibly difficult challenges that life sometimes throws our way.

You don’t have to bow before the dictates of current facts because you have control over every assumption you make about every thing.

This is your power. This is the path to greater happiness.  Turn yourself towards the things within your control and away from all those things you can do nothing about.

You’re not forgetful enough

I don’t mean you need to lose your phone or your keys more often.  Or like me forget to add water to the veggie steamer and end up with a burnt mess!

I’m speaking of the forgetfulness that impacts our lives in deep and serious ways.

Like grudges. Give them up…apart from the fact that they don’t feel good, they’re not healthy for your body and soul. And grudges of any kind are definitely major obstacles to happiness, whoever we are and whatever happened.

And as much as forgetting about that someone who ‘did you wrong’ matters, forgetting that miserable day you had yesterday matters even more.

If you ever fancy making sure you put the past hurts and fears behind you…check out this article..An Unusual Form of Forgiveness…it shows you just how to do that.

Because you know for sure that not forgetting the past is one of the major obstacles to happiness for you today and in your future. Right?

You never stop

You’re always doing.  Always looking for how to make things happen. Always rushing to fill every moment.

Why?

We need to stop rushing things that need time to grow  Click to Tweet

We need to stop breathlessly pursuing the next goal in life so that life hurries by without us ever having time to enjoy it.

Doing isn’t what gets you to a happier place. Constantly doing and overdoing are one of the major obstacles to happiness.

Stop and listen to what your life is saying to you.

Relationships don’t end out of the blue. You don’t randomly reach a goal.  Everything in life can be traced back to beliefs we hold, assumptions we make or decisions we took.

Worry, anxiety, frustration and misery each have their causes within us.  I know it’s rotten, but it’s true for you and me both!

And our life experiences are the indicators showing us what’s happening within.  Life echoes back to us all we are.

So stop and listen.

Life is constantly telling you what you need to pay attention to. And constantly doing, always busily trying to make things happen, never allows us to hear the message.

Final thoughts

Let’s all stop tripping up over these major obstacles to our happiness and try to remember that our very essence is being affected by our unwillingness to give ourselves what we need to live a balanced, fulfilled, joy filled life.

Renew your spirit regularly. And give yourself time to play. You deserve it.

Pay attention to everything you do that increases the life force available to you and all you’re doing that’s leaking all that powerful energy away from you.

You’ll know what this is if you frequently check in with how you’re feeling.

Your mind body and spirit are constantly being refreshed, revitalized and renewed by life’s essence that flows through the entire universe, don’t waste it.

Use it to increase your happiness and fulfillment levels.

Have fun daily even if it’s only a little. When you’re joyful you’re naturally increasing your happiness energy.

And if you need a little help to get started on overcoming those obstacles to happiness. Or you need an attitude adjustment…I have a little trick up my sleeve to help you out.

Who isn’t for a little trick that makes life easier, not to mention happier?

And this particular trick works out very well for me…since according to Oxford University’s Stephen Warrenburg  an aroma can have a significant effect on stress reduction and improving mood.

And I’m a big user of essential oils. Couldn’t be a more perfect fit!

I’d like to claim that I’m really smart and when I started using essential oils I knew this all along…but I can’t.  I found it out more by accident than design.

But now I do know, I have no excuses.

So I keep on hand a pure essential oil called Grapefruit to boost my vibration and my mood.

It’s uplifting, and helps to raise me up, energizing my body and spirit to tackle whatever life brings each day. For speedy results I dab a couple of drops behind my ears…works like magic.

And if you’d like some you can find it here.

Encourage one another.

Love Elle
