Some days it feels as though we’ve reached the end of our tether We can’t go on because we’ve run out of steam.

Our energy has been whittled away by every circumstance that hit us between the eyes, or batted us in the back of our head when we weren’t looking.

How to carry on?  How do you pick yourself up when it feels as though you’re spent? Used up. Not an ounce of energy left.

Whether the circumstances that have you feeling like you can’t go on had anything to do with you or not, your future has everything to do with you.

You need to know in your heart and soul that you have the courage and the gifts and talents to pick yourself up and do it one more time.

When you feel as though you can’t go on you need:

1. Self reliance

The trick here is to decide what you’re going to focus on.  Nothing can bring you peace, but you.  No one can pick you up, only you. Cherish yourself.  Self reliance is a road only you can travel. It’s not far, it’s within you.

You may be feeling stuck or uncertain, but remember this: You are your own hero, and it’s up to you to believe in yourself and take control of your future, no matter what challenges lay before you.

Practice fixing your own problems. If you are bored, fix it. If you are lonely or hurt, comfort yourself. If you are jealous, don’t hope that someone will reassure you … reassure yourself.

Tap into your own inner strength and never give up- no matter how daunting the task may seem- the universe will always support you in achieving your goals.

When you feel as though you can’t go on you need:

2. Imagination

How quickly and easily you can change your life often lies in the power of your imagination.

There was a time when it was technically agreed that it was impossible to fly or for man to travel in space.  Yet there were those who challenged those agreements with reality and today we do both.

The seed of possibility was planted through the power of someone’s imagination. You have the same capability.  Awaken your imagination today…it works like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets. The more you use it, the more magic you make.

If you’re stuck in a rut and feeling there’s no way forward remember sometimes we get trapped in our old routines.

It may feel like you’re going nowhere and not being able to move forward, but don’t be discouraged! All it takes is a spark of imagination.

It’s up to you to draw on your own creativity and make something out of it — think about what you want for yourself, dream about the possibilities that can come with it. By awakening your imagination, you will discover new paths and opportunities – the journey starts from within!

The ability to envision a greater life is the first step to digging yourself out of any hole you’ve fallen into.

But you’ll never get there until you can imagine it and allow it to become your truth.

When you feel as though you can’t go on you need:

3. Ambition

Knowing where you want to go is ambitious.  It’s an expression of who you are and who you’re becoming.  It’s your desire to reach for the stars.

And sometimes it means starting over.

Being stuck and unable to move forward can be difficult, and sometimes taking a step back is the only way to move forward.

It’s like playing chess – even the best players have to make a few strategic backward moves in order to take the lead. If you find yourself in a position where you must make a u-turn, don’t be discouraged – it just might be exactly what you need to get back on track and succeed!

Let your desires pull you forward.

When you feel as though you can’t go on you need:

4. Mediation

That’s not a typo.  I didn’t mean meditation, though that’s something I truly believe is of real benefit to us all.

I’m talking about mediating between current circumstances and desired circumstances.

Right now you might have reached the point when it’s hard to go on, let alone improve your life.

And it’s okay to admit you’re a bit scared, but honestly how you see your life today becomes more clear when you realize it’s all in your head.  In the thoughts you think and the beliefs you hold.

So take time to refresh and renew your perspective on life. A simple way is to begin to focus on the circumstances you’d like to have rather than the ones you’re currently experiencing.

As you learn to master your focus you begin to tap into the inner creative power that is always available to you.

If this is too unbelievable for you in your own world.  Do it for another.  The process is simple.

Someone in your life might be experiencing circumstances that are hurting them in some way.  Think of what they’d like to be experiencing and focus your attention on that.

Hear them telling you that they have good news.  Things are looking up for the better.  See them smiling and happy.

They don’t need to know what you’re doing.  It’s your gift. And the beauty of this gift is that the energy of it fills your world and your circumstances as well.

Start unblocking the blessings that await you, by mediating circumstances for others.

Spiritually speaking

As you start the transformation process that helps you get through those days when you feel you simply can’t go on, you might find yourself repeating old patterns of being.

Even when you know better, it’s an easy trap to fall into. Don’t beat yourself up.  Be patient and kind to yourself.

Becoming more aware of those old patterns repeating themselves is good news.  You’re in the process of change and soon you’ll find you’re having new ideas and new habits are forming.  More positive, uplifting habits.

Believe in yourself.

Encourage one another.

  1. I think imagination and meditation as well for me journaling are what help when we feel we are at the end of whatever. Often too we need to step right back and JUST BE xxx

    • Hi Suzie…I think you’re spot on. There are times when it’s good to take a deep breath, step back and as you say BE! 🙂

  2. I’ve certainly felt that way sometimes this past year, there have been so many challenges. It all comes down to the mind though, doesn’t it. I like how your suggestions focus on harnessing the mind, Elle. Imagination is potent. At one point, when it all felt impossible, I imagined what my life would be like if it changed, and I realized I could make it work. It might not be the life I expected, but it could still be a good life!

    • I love that you did that Sandra. Sometimes writing down the life you desire, with as much reality as we can muster, switches our energetic frequencies to ones that allow happier experiences to show up. At least that’s what I’ve found in my own life. 🙂

  3. You said: Becoming more aware of those old patterns repeating themselves is good news.

I certainly agree with this! It is the start of mindfulness and creating better and more effective habits!

    • Right Evelyn! Interesting how awareness can be used against us, making us miserable…or for us…allowing us to choose something different. 🙂

  4. Love these suggestions, Elle. When times get really tough, there is nothing better than having some encouragement to move through it. I particularly like your tip about mediation between current circumstances and desired circumstances. It’s that give and take that can help change happen. Maybe things can’t be different immediately, but I have found if you take baby steps, that creates a more positive mindset which is always good.

    • Baby steps. That’s the thing Cathy. For many they want this big overnight change which is rare for any of us to get…not impossible…but rare. And when it doesn’t happen overnight, this expectation adds to the challenges already in place. You make an excellent point dear one. 🙂

  5. Inspiring post with useful info, I think the advice to be patient with and kind to yourself in the last paragraph is the most important of all. In my opinion, it is a prerequisite to the others above.

    • Funny how that one often gets lost Debbie…yet, as you point out…it’s probably the best foundation for all the rest. 🙂

  6. I’ve used these techniques to change my own life, especially when it seemed that things couldn’t get any worse. Your life is as good or as bad as you imagine it to be.

The first step in changing your current circumstances is to envision what you want. So many people say they want “not this” which only brings them more of “this” because their subconscious has nothing else to focus on. Give it something better to focus on and thoughts and actions begin to change and create a different life.

    • That’s so true Paige. People can tell you thousands of things they don’t want…but when it comes to what they do actually want…suddenly it doesn’t seem so easy. 🙂

  7. Love your tips here Elle! I especially love -> “Don’t beat yourself up. Be patient and kind to yourself”…..often while we are trying to hone ourselves, we forget that we are still human and are allowed to make mistakes. Self love helps immensely.
thank you for this beautiful reminder.

    • Hi Zeenat…so glad you enjoyed the post. Sadly far too many are far too hard on themselves and hurt themselves even more. 🙂
