If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true is really true, there would be little hope of advance. ~ Orville Wright There are times when I’m reminded that I really do live in my own little world. And sometimes when I hear or see the worlds that some other people live in…the worlds where being focused on what you don’t want is normal and choosing the very thing you don’t want is just the way it is, I’m totally taken by surprise. I can’t imagine living like that anymore. One thing I know for sure, it isn’t going to improve life as we currently know it. And since it’s been a little while since I’ve told a story, here’s a little travellers tale for you. I was chatting to Louisa yesterday, and she was telling me she’d been delayed at the airport. Hmmm that sounds too familiar…must…

[success] Man is not the creature of circumstances, circumstances are the creatures of men. We are free agents, and man is more powerful than matter. ~ Benjamin Disraeli[/success] Today I’m enjoying myself on the high seas heading towards St Maarten.  Woohoo.  If you want to know the ‘why’ of it, the real reason this wonderful trip occurred, check out this post. Internet service is somewhat spotty on this ship, if at all, so if I’m missing in action you’ll know why.  Not to mention I might be having fun and sun on some tropical island somewhere.  Might just skip the zip lining thingy tho’, I’ve never been all that comfortable hanging on by some slim wire as I careen across the tree tops yay high.  I know cowardy custard me will miss some really, really cool sights.  Oh well, twas ever thus! But back to the cruising for a minute and…

[success]Let us not be satisfied with just giving money.  Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them.  So spread your love everywhere you go. ~ Mother Teresa[/success] I haven’t heard that song in donkey’s years…but as I began writing this post it kept popping into my head and wouldn’t go away…you know how that is.  So I stayed with it.  I don’t know if Elton knew this or not, but by George he’s got it! The first time I visited Washington D.C, many years ago,  I was struck by the number of people asking me for money.  I didn’t know if this was peculiar to this city in particular, or big cities in general.  But I gave a dollar to everyone who asked. At the end of day one, I’d given away twenty dollars.  Day two similar, maybe a little more.  …

It was my first trip to Rome.  Harriet and I had decided we needed to expand our horizons and did we ever, just not in the way we’d anticipated.   Pasta, the best pizza in the world, handsome Italians …did I forget history…didn’t mean to put it at the bottom of the list, but really, pasta, pizza and handsome Italians rated pretty highly for the must eat, see and do gals that we were. It was amazing. We ate pizza on the Spanish Steps, and had pasta near the Via Veneto with two very charming and very Italian young men. “Isn’t it fantastic” I said. Harriet said Rome was dirty. We bought wonderful Italian sandals on our way to the Colosseum.  I had to wear mine immediately. “Isn’t Rome fantastic”  I said. Harriet said it was dirty. We threw coins, over our shoulders, into the Trevi Fountain.  I don’t think you…

I stand accused.  I’m crushed.  Some friends have told me that the directions I gave them to our new home must be English directions, because they didn’t understand them and got lost…well not really lost…they had to call for clarification.  But in the old days, before cell phones, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, they would have been lost. Pondering, as I’m apt to do when accused of giving false information, I reached the conclusion that they might have a point, and there was something missing in my directions. I’m more accustomed to this: Take a right by the… Then left by the And when you come to the… You should see our place… To tell the truth…as I suppose I must…this is not really our house, this is The Oakley Court, a hotel near Windsor, England.  They do a very nice afternoon tea. Today’s trivia… the reason why there’s so…
