Oh would some power the gift to give us, to see ourselves as others see us. ~ Robert Burns Yes I translated it from the actual Scottish which talks about gifties and gies because even I, a Scottish lassie, have to think about it and I didn’t want to impose the mysteries of the Scots language on you! I’m nice like that. How do I know if I have negative beliefs, when I’m not aware of them? I was asked this recently and thought it such a great question that I needed to write about it. Whilst pondering the question the words of Robert Burns…that old Scottish poet got stuck in my head. Rabbie Burns, as he’s known in the land of his birth, is a great reminder of how your world is exactly the way it is because it mirrors precisely the beliefs you hold. And it’s pretty easy…

[success]Some of us think holding on makes us strong: but sometimes it is letting go. ~ Herman Hesse[/success] You’d been together a long time.  You were comfortable with each other, you knew one another’s strengths and weaknesses.   You never thought you’d part company and then you did.  It was shockingly and suddenly over.  You’d actually moved on.  It was hard to believe, yet here you were letting go, choosing something new and it was…well okay. Until one day, those old familiar feelings re-surfaced…aargh…where in the heck did they come from?  You thought you were done with them…after all, you’d given them up, hadn’t you? Apparently not, for here they were in all their glory…having the cheek to show up, just to remind you that breaking up really is hard to do, especially when you’re breaking up with old, familiar and not very helpful negative thoughts. They say that confession…

[success]You are the sculptor of your own reality.  Don’t hand your tools to anyone else. ~  Jeff Brown[/success] Did you know that 66% of job seekers who imagined themselves as being happily employed found new jobs months earlier than those who merely had career counseling? What?  You hadn’t heard that?  Me neither, but that’s according to a study by the Journal of Consulting Psychology, so it must be right. Right? If that all sounds a little bit too studious, never fear, I have a little story to tell that’ll be right up your alley because it’s all about imagination…we love that don’t we? Don’t we? Have I ever mentioned Louisa’s husband?  Hmmm it’s time to remedy that.  I’m going to call him Tom…I love to protect the innocent as I tell stories about them…okay not stories about them so much, as their very own stories, as told to me.  Honest.…

[success]We can’t solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. ~ Albert Einstein[/success] Remember Louisa, who works in the entertainment industry?  She was telling me recently that she had been imagining experiencing a really big, new life change.  She was excited and thrilled with the happy outcome she had in mind and for weeks she’d given it plenty of attention.  She was feeling pretty good about it all. It all went to hell in a handbasket And then, and then…gulp…she realized that a week had gone by and she hadn’t given it a thought.  Louisa told me that she’d asked herself if the desire was no longer important.  The answer was she still wanted it.  What happened?  Why was I back to the old thoughts she wanted to know. It’s training.  Creating new tracks in our mind for our thoughts to move along isn’t always…

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.  Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. – Harriet Tubman I’m a big believer in dreams.  In fact the bigger and greater the dream the better.  It isn’t always a helpful trait.  Sitting in a classroom one day gazing dreamily out of the window, a rather large blackboard eraser whistled past my ear.  True story.  It did miss me which was probably great for the teacher and my head.  I lived to dream another day and in honour of all dreamers…big and small…here’s some great quotes.  Enjoy. “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he had imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” — Henry David Thoreau “You see things; and you say,…
