[success] Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality. ~ Earl Nightingale[/success]
Be honest. You sometimes have weird thoughts.
Be glad you’re not me ~ otherwise you’d have these kind of thoughts running around your head:
Why is that person travelling at forty miles an hour when he’s about to join traffic moving at warp speed…well okay maybe only seventy miles an hour? I’m prone to a little poetic licence, more commonly known as exaggeration.
Why did that person honk his horn at me? I only veered a little bit over the white line because I was fiddling with the radio?
Why did I see so many fender benders when I was out and about today?
And, you’ll be thrilled to know that I have an answer for everyone of these questions. Just a one word answer.
Consciousness
That’s why. And no, not their consciousness…mine.
The reason, and the only reason, we see what we see in our world and have what we have, lies in our consciousness. So today I thought I’d be really helpful and share a little of how it works. Because as you all know, I’m super nice like that. Be warned, it is only a little piece…it’s a booksize topic.
But I want us all to make sure we’re plugged in to our invisible power in bigger and greater ways…it’s good for us and good for our world.
I’d like to introduce you to the Stickman, created by Thurman Fleet way back when. He’s a helpful little chap, and if you think he’s a bigheaded fellow, it’s because he is. Point being the mind is soooo much more dominant and powerful than the body.
How it works
The conscious mind takes its marching orders from our senses, what we see, hear, think and taste. It’s our reasoning faculty. And it gets to say yes, or no to any ideas that pass through its doorway.
We have chosen all the thoughts that run around in our conscious mind. Or maybe we just accepted what we heard from outside sources.
No one makes us think anything, and that’s the good news. We get to say, yep that’s a great idea, think I’ll hang on to it. Or no way, those thoughts are totally unhelpful. And then…whatever we’ve chosen or consented to gets passed through to our subconscious mind.
Your centre of power
The subconscious mind is the centre of our power, drawing to us our life experiences and every person in it. Thomas Troward called it a centre of divine operation. Problem is it isn’t able to say hey wait a minute…that’s a sucky idea. It has no power to be selective, no power to say no.
Isn’t that amazing?
This incredibly powerful part of us can only accept what it’s given by our conscious mind. And yet, this is where our imagination lives.
So if we pick and choose what we’re willing to consciously accept and to think and we remain persistent, these thoughts become part of who we are and who we are is revealed to us every single solitary day in every single solitary experience we have.
Even better news
There’s more good news…our subconscious accepts anything we believe to be true, whether it’s a fact or not. Basically we can put anything we choose into our imagination, and if we feel it’s true out it pops as our reality. Our subconscious mind will send our body into action and we get to experience the results of what we believe and think and feel is true.
The other side of the coin is that unless we change those old thoughts, old beliefs, and old feelings we’re going to keep getting what we already have. That’s why things keep happening to me or you over and over again, but our current results are not a reflection of what we can be or do or become, they’re just a reflection of old habits, of who we used to be. Yippee.
It’s a blooming magnificent system.
Pay attention and reap the rewards
Just in case you’re feeling despondent, and feel as thought you have no control over what your subconscious is about to let loose in your life. Fear not. We do have control of this incredibly powerful, creative, wonderful, divine part of us.
By paying attention to the ideas and feelings we entertain every day, we can absolutely alter the experiences of our life.
I’m not talking about one hundred percent control here. Who could do that?
Try 5 percent
To rephrase, I know I’m not at the point in my life where I have one hundred percent control. I’m sure someone, somewhere has…but I haven’t met them, yet. Mind you if you’re out there, please call…I’ve always wanted to be connected to a super being.
But what about an extra five per cent, or ten percent? What if we chose to not dwell on our imperfections or those of others? That would make a big difference.
If we would but make it our business, make it a priority in our life to be aware of some of the thoughts and feelings we have in a day and choose to have a few more loving thoughts, more encouraging thoughts, and sprinkle some additional happy feelings in there, we’d all experience a greater more fulfilling life.
Final thoughts
If you would but choose more happy feelings and practice looking for happiness a few minutes every day you would nourish your soul, your deeper self, and everyone in your life would be blessed by being in contact with you.
So just by choosing a bigger, greater picture of our life…through means I know not…this centre of divine operation within us proceeds to turn it into a fact in our world.
Now isn’t that a beautiful system?
And now that big headed stickman makes a lot of sense. Right?
Encourage one another.
Love Elle

Hi Elle,
I love what you said here. Your point about the subconscious accepting anything we believe to be true, whether it’s a fact or not, is especially great. I couldn’t agree more. How often have people told something to themselves so many times that they start to believe it? I know I’ve done that in the past.
I’m going to start paying attention to my thoughts and feelings now. I want to see how much I can alter my life.
Steve
Hello Steve – you sound a lot like me my friend. I love to see where I can go as I enlarge and practice my new awarenesses of working with these Laws of Life. 🙂
Elle,
What a great write up of something is often hard to understand. What amazes me is that the subconscious believes everything it’s told. I’ve discovered I AM statements this year. I’m having so much fun with them and teaching my older, teenage kids to use them. They really work and I totally think the subconscious has a lot to do with it!
Thanks… I’m sending this on to my kids. Love the stickman!!

Hello Betsy, so happy you enjoyed this…I remember the first time I learned about the stickman…it suddenly began to make some sense. Hope your kids enjoy it. And you’re so right about I AM. The most creatively powerful two words we have, because we’re calling into being everything that comes after them. Might as well make it something we want. 🙂
How timely, I am rereading right now The Power of your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy and the Earl Nightingale quote sums it up beautifully thanks for sharing
Namaste
Suzie
Nice to have you pop in Suzie…Don’t you just love Joseph Murphy and Earl Nightingale. They gave us so much.
I’m always fascinated when I re-read a book and read it again and again, how many times I notice something that wasn’t there before! Of course you and I know it’s my change in consciousness that allows me to see this so called ‘new’ stuff. Gotta love it. 🙂
Sticky big fat thing, that subconscious is!
Now you gave me the biggest laugh of the day Julie. I loved your comment. 🙂
Elle…you write so well. I know you have heard this many times but really it doesnt hurt to hear it one more time. 🙂
I feel happy reading it and surely more hopeful. But lemme tell you this, it is so hard to get out of existing thinking pattern and set ideas that we have. its a minute to minute struggle, i have been at it and seriously the instant reactions from moment to moment, the stubborness, the righteousness wins most of the time. or maybe I am the most hardened case.I would so love to plant seeds of love and generosity in my soul…that would make my life so much easier . sigh ! Anyways…your words re enforce my commitment to my journey. Thank you dear.there’s a lightness and ease in your words. so love that. 🙂
Hello Kiran and welcome…and you’re exactly right…all encouragement is greatly appreciated. Oh what the heck…I love it!
Welcome to the path of persistance Kiran. I think it’s pretty much the same for us all as we move towards changing those habits of thought into ones that serve us so much better. I know people who’ve been studying and practicing these life laws for a lot longer than me…and they’re not perfect at it. And you know what, it’s okay. It does make life easier, as you say, to have more lovely thoughts about ourselves and others…and I say go for one a day and keep returning to it as the day unfolds. For the moments you have that thought, you’ve entered a higher vibrational frequency and it’s got to bring a bit more higher vibrational ‘stuff’. You know what they say about practice makes perfect!
And my dear, please don’t lose heart…you’re awake and aware…that’s a huge leap forward in consciousness and deserves a big pat on the back and a hug. Consider yourself hugged. 🙂
