If you’re looking for something to provide you with a solid start to a new phase in your life, first, consider the ways you can light up the world.
What are you here for?
What have you come to do?
Are you doing it? There is something that’s calling you…can you hear it?
Jack London said “I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet….The function of man is to live, not to exist.” And you, from whatever starting point you come from, have the power to light up your own world.
1. Don’t sit back, waiting
This is the day that some will choose to stop living with a victim mentality and begin to run their own life and make positive changes. Will this be you?
This could be the day that many make the commitment to be better than they were yesterday. Not better than another, just better than themselves at being mother, father, child, boss, employee, student, teacher or whatever. Why not you?
Today, many will take the time to imagine the best life they could experience and take whatever action they’re guided to take to make a difference. Will you?
Each day is a new day, some will live it to the fullest. How about you?
2. Don’t live a half lived life
A big obstacle to living a rich and full life is not recognizing that life is a series of evolutions. Be willing to keep your focus on what’s ahead and stop looking back at might-have-beens.
Keeping a tight hold of what you currently have, might be the reason you’re not experiencing something greater and grander.
If you’ve created a prison for yourself by repeating stories of how difficult things are for you, or if you remain focused on all the things that should have happened but didn’t.
Take a moment and look around you at the vast beautiful world in which you live, filled with opportunities for joy and abundance and breathe it in. It belongs to you. Embrace the possibilities that await.
3. Be willing to grow
Many of us talk a good game about growth, but if you’re still thinking the same thoughts you had last year and the year before and heaven forbid, even the year before that, then you’re stuck in a loop.
The best way to live is to grow and we only grow if we’re willing to change.
We only experience change when we’re open to learning something new. And we can’t learn something new if we’re not willing to expose ourself to new ideas and experiences.
Do it. Throw yourself wholeheartedly into something new this year. Don’t let fear of failure get in your way.
4. Nourish yourself
The world around you is a reflection of your inner world. The mindset you operate from is the creative power that draws every life experience towards you. A focus on fearful, unlovely thoughts can never bring beauty, peace or joy into your world.
Successful people set the tone for their day, every day, by feeding themselves positive, uplifting things.
Nurture your inner self at the start of each day by meditating, visualizing your day, reading or listening to something inspirational.
This nourishment of your inner being is a powerful tool to energize your spirit for a rewarding and productive day.
Starting your day on a positive note and switching the typical thoughts of how far you have to go towards the appreciation of how far you’ve come might very well be the only thing that you need in order to experience more joy, abundance, love or success.
The wonderful people in your life.
The many blessings you have.
The beauty in each day.
That life is a gigantic, amazing adventure.
How much you focus on positive things.
The opportunities that abound.
The smiling faces.
What feels good and what doesn’t and practice feeling good.
6. Light the darkness
In the darkest moments of your life, learn to shine your inner light. In the darkest moments of another’s life, light a candle for them. Being a light in the world is what gives the world such radiant magic.
7. Just do it
The only way to light up the world is to do it. Many people talk the talk, without walking the talk. Don’t let that be you. We need you to shine.
Being the best you possible inspires and encourages the rest of us.
See someone doing a great job, say so. Tell someone how thrilled you are that their life is working so well. Be pleased for another’s success. Be an encourager.
Lead by example as you treat everyone kindly and with respect, not because they deserve it, but because you do. Everything you are is given back to you pressed down and overflowing.
What other ways could you light up the world? There’s so many to choose from.
May today bring you the courage to put the powerful universal forces of life to work on your behalf as you begin to write the next chapter in your life story and light up your world. The world is ready for a new story.
Encourage one another.

Hi Elle; thanks again for being your positive inspiring self. I like that last bit the best of all. I always try to be an encourager a problem solver and a cheer leader for my friends and family and even for those beautiful strangers who come into my life through the website or the blog. I hope i am doing my part to light up the world. thanks for the lead. take care and have an amazingly blessed 2014, max
Hi Max I’m not in the least bit surprised to hear that you’re an encourager…it shows in all you share here. And I’m grateful for you always encouraging me with your uplifting comments. May you be ever more blessed in 2014. 🙂
What a beautiful idea and replacement for resolutions, Elle. Just the thought of lighting up my world makes me smile. I agree with Maxwell! I love your positivity.
Hi Sandra, and thanks for stopping by and leaving such encouraging words. You certainly brightened my day. May you have a blessed and abundant 2014. 🙂
Fabulous as usual, Elle! My goal is to take your words of wisdom and live by them to the fullest, and share the happiness with others!
Hi Cher, being happy really does light up your world and mine…and you’ve already shined your light on me with your encouraging words. Thank you and may you have the most blessed and happy year ever (so far) in 2014. 😀
Beautiful post Elle – thank you! Such an uplifting way to go into 2014… “How can I light up my world and live more fully?” That will be in my question to myself as I go forward. I LOVE that! There is so much joy in this world and I want to tap into it as much as possible in 2014. Thank you for this wonderful reminder of how to do just that!
Hi Karen, how nice to see you here. It’s so true there is joy everywhere if we would but open our eyes to see it. I think we should all make new habits instead of resolutions for 2014, how about a habit of seeking joy. I think we’ll be amazed at how much we found in a year. 🙂
I love the idea of living your best life. This line spoke to me: “Successful people set the tone for their day, every day, by feeding themselves positive, uplifting things.” So true and definitely worth remembering. Thank you and happy 2014 to you!!
Hi Cathy, I’d bet you’re one of the people who set themselves up for a wonderful day, every time you open your eyes onto a new one. 😀
What a wonderful and inspiring post to start off the new year, my friend!
In particular, I really appreciated what you wrote about starting off the day with thoughts of what we do have, rather than what we don’t. Doing this is an amazing way of creating a mindset of abundance, which in turn can increase our happiness, as we are grateful for all the amazing things we already have.
Thank you, and wishing you a very happy 2014!
Hi Hiten, I so agree with you that starting our day in a mindset of abundance is a wonderful way to live life. It works, which is amazing in and of itself. 🙂
This is the first time I am visiting your blog and it seems filled with full of sources containing positive energy.
Willingness is the only thing which is centric in here because “Whenever you have a will, there will be definately a way.” But that “will” is sometimes very tough to inculcate.
Thanks for this beautiful article. 🙂
Glad I found it here.
Hi Charmie, it seems I’m a bit behind in responding to comments, for which I apologize. It’s lovely to have you visit and I do hope you continue to stop by. Willingness is indeed a powerful place to occupy and can lead us to so many exciting adventures in life. 🙂
Hi Elle – thanks a lot for reminding me of those great, timeless wisdom’s. I especially like the last point – taking action or “just do it…” and this is so true, because if we don’t take action nothing can happen or as Einstein liked to say: “Nothing happens until something moves.”
Hi Robert, nice to see you again. I don’t recall that Einstein quote, but I love it. Thanks for bringing your insightfulness to this page. 🙂
