I can honestly say, that I have no idea what your purpose on this planet is and maybe, at this point, neither do you.
But I do know that you have one, and part of it is to live life as your best and greatest self…to be the happiest, most successful you.
I also know that everything you need to make this happen already exists, and that your biggest problem is one we all suffer from…we live in a world filled with distractions.
And for anyone ready to turn their life around, today is a great day to reclaim it from the distractions that prevent you from living more happily and successfully.
1. Be honest with yourself
It’s easy to fool ourselves. We probably do it more often that we’d care to admit. And the only result is that we keep ourselves small. We diminish the amazing beings we are.
Don’t tell lies to feel better about yourself, because somewhere deep within, you have a belief you’re not enough. You have the potential for greatness, you have what it takes to bring your dreams to life…rise up to that level.
It’s far too easy to listen to your negative self talk but before long it begins to eat away at your confidence. There comes a point when you have to decide to stop being a slave to your old ideas about who you are.
It’s high time you saw all the great things about you.
And it’s high time you stopped weighing yourself down with negative beliefs. How can you fly when you’re so heavily laden?
2. One thing at a time
We think we’re being efficient by multi-tasking, but truth be told our mind is just switching from one task to another. I know it feels like you’re doing more, but chances are you’re doing less.
Studies show that our stress increases and productivity drops about 40% when we try multi-tasking. Why would you do that on purpose?
It’s hard to create greater happiness when you’re feeling stressed and beaten down by working on too many things at the same time…and chances are great that you do none of them well.
When your dreams have gone cold it’s because you haven’t made them your priority. You’re too busy ‘doing’. Clear your plate and make room for your heart’s desires.
3. Make a critical shift
A powerful and determined mindset will create more miracles than any effort of will. You might not be where you want to be right now. You might be in a place of struggle, or doubt, or overwhelm but you don’t have to stay there.
Greater happiness and success have everything to do with your mindset and very little to do with current circumstances.
Whatever’s going on in your life right now, it’s an awesome truth that when you make up your mind to change the way you see the world, your world will change.
Never let what currently ‘is’ rule your life. Be open to new possibilities. Be the overcomer you were designed to be.
4. Stop the tricks
Your biggest challenge isn’t getting past the obstacles that get in your way, your biggest challenge is to stop allowing your old mindset to play tricks on you.
You can only see and experience what you’ve told your mind is possible for you.
And if you’re ready to move forward you have to stop being the victim of the same old story you keep repeating to yourself about who you are or what you can do.
It’s time to give your mind a new story, one filled with new chances and fresh ideas.
5. Putting it plainly
As a coach one of the things I noticed most was that whilst everyone wanted more success in all areas of life, they somehow managed to get in the way of their own happiness.
They weren’t focused on what mattered.
Today plan to put your attention on what matters to you.
Focus on the things that are important, the things that add value to your life and the life of others.
Abundance always flows to those who place value on themselves and others, so if you want a bigger bank account, or a great love affair, or a healthy body, or to be respected, begin with yourself.
Take a moment every day to write down three things that are great about you. Train your mind to value the one person you’ll be with forever…you. And then seek the value in others. Look for what’s good and focus on that.
Putting it plainly, and I know you’ve heard it before…heck I’ve said it countless times before, greater happiness and success begins and ends with you.
6. With a little grace say a large no
We think we’ll be more successful if we take every opportunity that comes our way. So our plates become over filled and no matter how much we try to rearrange them it doesn’t work. You just have to cut back.
It’s not always easy to say no when you’re being offered wonderful opportunities but you can’t be totally consumed with doing, you have to leave a margin for being. Life is a balancing act of being and doing. Let one get out of balance and everything suffers.
The most successful and happy among us say ‘no’ more often than ‘yes’, allowing themselves to have the room and space to grow and develop themselves.
7. Spiritually speaking
Everything depends upon your attitude towards yourself. Anything you don’t affirm as true of you will never be experienced in your world.
We’re all the same, we have the same awesome potential locked within.
You have everything you need to go wherever you want to go, to do whatever you want to do. And you have the power to do it.
The only difference between those who have more and those who have less is in their attitude to themselves and that is up to you. Practice a little self-love.
Questions:
Do you have a hard time valuing yourself? What things do you repeatedly affirm about you?

As always, you rock.
Encourage one another.

Dear Elle, You’ve really hit the nail on the head with this statement: “They weren’t focused on what mattered.” I think that’s the key to what holds me back at times in addition to the subtle, semi-conscious patterns that tend to rule our life. I’ve recently been review those patterns in order to take a determined stand to be in new and different ways. Thanks for the encouragement, Elle.
Hello Sandra…something most of us experience – getting caught up in something that doesn’t really matter to us. With ever more available to us, ever more distractions, we honestly have to become extra discerning in where we put out attention. I like your idea of a ‘determined stand’. I think it has to be that way, at least until we form the habit of choosing the major over the minor. Great advice for us all Sandra. 🙂
Thank you for the inspiration!
Hello Cody. Nice to ‘see you’ here. 🙂
Another excellent article, Elle !
“How can you fly when you are so heavily laden ? ” with all of the things that lead us to declining our True Selves and our fullest most wonderful awake lives . . . “Happiness and success have everything to do with your mindset and not your current circumstances” because we all know that Love always vanquishes fear . . . “Practice a little self-Love” and cut yourself some slack so you can enjoy this amazing yet too brief journey . . .
Write on, Elle !
Hello Joseph, I say a big yes to living as our true selves. Who knows the amazing things we’ll discover as we do. 🙂
I totally agree with #4 – stop the tricks. I sometimes easily slide back into old mindsets and programming. Fortunately, I have a beautiful spiritual practice of noticing and stopping when I do notice, then reflect and make a different choice. Thanks for your post!
Hello Sandy…it’s pretty easy to fall back into old patterns, and yes, I speak from lots of experience. But big hugs to you for your level of awareness – it makes all the difference to living a happy life. Yay Sandy. 🙂
Hi Elle, perfect timing for me. I have been thinking more and more about what it is I need to do to move forward, especially today. It is no coincidence that almost every post I have read today has felt very in line with what I am feeling. I love that! Thank you as always for the encouragement and love!
Hi Annie funny how we draw what we’re conscious of right into our world. Seeing it happen as clearly as you just shared really confirms that we need to be guardians at the gate of our mind and only entertain those ideas and thoughts that encourage and support and inspire. I’m truly happy you found so many things that were uplifting for you today. 🙂
Hi Elle,Loved this post!I feel especially drawn towards #6 With a little grace say a large no.Life is a balance and I always ask myself the question, “Am I working to live or living to work”.It’s that question that seals the deal and balance for me
Hello Frank – that’s a flipping great question my friend! It’s always so good to check in every now and then and discover where we really are, and if we still want to travel the same path. Good for you for doing this. 🙂
Elle, I love this post!! We do have so much power, but we sometimes forget and allow our mindsets to get in the way. I love when you say “A powerful and determined mindset will create more miracles than any effort of will.” It is so true. We think by pushing harder we’ll succeed when really it’s about believing and acting with that belief. Thank you!
Hello Jessica. It sounds as though you and I have both learned the hard way that pushing harder just brings more stress, not more success! It took a while before I truly understood that I had to ‘be’ the one before I could ‘have’ whatever it was I wanted. (Ongoing life lesson – lol) 🙂
